Take Action: Contact Target Now!

It turns out that one of my favorite stores, Target, has allowed its pharmacists to refuse to fill certain prescriptions--ones for emergency contraception, that is. This is so not right! How could Target allow this? The pharmacist's personal views should not dictate what prescriptions they fill or do not fill. Planned Parenthood has stepped to the plate yet again. They have a page on their site that makes it very simple for you to target Target for this decision: Take Action: Contact Target Now!.

  • Looks like Target does respect women! Look at the e-mail response I received today:

    Dear Target Guest,
Target places a high priority on our role as a community pharmacy and our obligation to meet the needs of the patients we serve. We expect all our team members, including our pharmacists, to provide respectful service to our guests, particularly when it comes to their health care needs.

Like many other retailers, Target has a policy that ensures a guest’s prescription for emergency contraception is filled, whether at Target or at a different pharmacy, in a timely and respectful manner. This policy meets the health care needs of our guests while respecting the diversity of our team members.

Your thoughts help us learn more about what our guests expect, so I’ll be sure to share your feedback with our pharmacy executives.

Thanks for taking the time to share your questions, thoughts and comments. I hope we’ll see you again soon at Target.

    Sincerely,
    Jennifer Hanson

  • "Emergency contraception" is not a health care "need". I would say that any company has a right to decline a service or item that does not match their values and morals. I do not know what Target's reason was for refusing "emergency contraception", but I hope it had something to do with the fact that casual sex is overused and abused to such a great extent in our culture that they felt compelled to draw a line somewhere. This would have been a good start, had they not sold out to a few complaints. By the way, has anyone noticed that, while Target claims to be "committed to social well-being in every community", it did not prevent them from selling Grand Theft Auto VI in their stores? If you haven't seen this remarkably violent and perverted game, check out utube for clips from it and prepare to be repulsed. Once again, Target has been a great disapointment. I hope their new president will grow a backbone.
